TikTok sensation Matt Rife and Netflix are in town to shoot his latest comedy special, which will air on the streaming service.
Rife has a sold-out six-show run at The Comedy Zone in Charlotte and audience members from the first night of the show are reporting that a camera crew and producers were present to record the act.
A notice on The Comedy Zone’s website for Rife’s show includes a disclaimer about consent for being recorded while inside the venue.
“By purchasing tickets and/or coming to the show, you consent to be photographed, filmed and/or otherwise recorded. Your entry will constitute your consent to photography, filming and/or recording and to any use, in any and all media throughout the universe in perpetuity, of your appearance, voice and name for any purpose whatsoever in connection with the production.”
All audience members were required to lock up their phones in Yondr pouches and had to sign a release waiver before entering.
According to someone in the audience, the director spoke before Matt got up on stage announcing that it was the “first-show-of-its-kind” for Netflix with the interactive crowd work over a typical stand-up comedy special.
No word yet on when the special will be released.
Rife has four more shows left at The Comedy Zone in the AvidXchange Music Factory. While tickets are sold out, you might be able to grab resale tickets at a much higher markup.
