FALL RIVER — Locals who showed up to the Belmont Club for a night of laughs this weekend, got an extra dose of that, as well as some gasps of surprise.
Matt Rife, TikTok sensation turned world-famous comedian, popped in unannounced for a special set Sunday, Jan. 19, at the bar's Whale City Comedy event.
The crowd packed the 34 Franklin St. spot to catch the beloved ROFL House's sold-out comedy show — featuring Ray Harrington, whose stand-up can be seen on Hulu and Conan O'Brien, as well as Fall River’s Sonya Priest, Derek Furtado, Carolina Montesquieu and Doug Key.
However, the lucky crowd's night was made even more memorable as Rife, who is no stranger to sold-out shows, got in on the fun at the small downtown city bar.
"Thank you Whale City comedy and all of our comedians and our special guest Matt Rife for making the return of ROFL house comedy a success," reads a Facebook post from the Belmont Club.
Whale City Comedy is known for its pop-up shows and annual five day comedy festival based in SouthCoast. This summer, they brought their festival — which overall included 30 top-tier comedians from Comedy Central, Conan and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon — aboard Fall River's Battleship Massachusetts for one special night.
Their most recent spotlight on standup at the Belmont proved an unquestionable crowd-pleaser.
