‘Mo’ Season 2 Trailer: Hannibal Burress and Matt Rife Join Mo Amer’s Semi-Autobiographical Series

Liza Koshy, Ralph Barbosa, and Slim Thug are additional guest stars in the last season of the Netflix and A24 show.

Mo Amer’s meta Netflix series “Mo” is back for Season 2, and this time, Amer is joined by more than a few comedy pals.

Hannibal Buress, Liza Koshy, Matt Rife, Ralph Barbosa, and Slim Thug join the eight-episode season of the critically acclaimed show co-created by Amer and Ramy Youssef (who also has his own eponymous semi-autobiographical series).

Amer plays alter-ego Mo Najjar in the show, a character who straddles the line between two cultures, three languages, and “a ton of bullshit as a Palestinian on the path to U.S. citizenship,” according to the logline.

Season 2 finds Mo stranded across the border and desperate to get back to Houston before his family’s asylum hearing; but as a stateless refugee without a passport, Mo “needs all the hustle and charm he can muster,” as the synopsis reads. “Little does he know that the journey home is just the start of his troubles, and there’s a new guy in town ready to steal both his longtime love Maria and his dream of finally returning to Palestine.”

“Mo” is directed and executive produced by Amer and Solvan “Slick” Naim, with Youssef, Harris Danow, Jacqui Rivera, Azhar Usman, and A24 also executive producing.

Season 1 premiered in 2022, and inspired Steven Spielberg to reach out to creator Amer. The series also won the AFI Award for TV Program of the Year. Amer additionally earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Lead Performance in a New Scripted Series for his work on the show.

“Getting honored by the American Film Institute was the first—like, whoa,” Amer told Entertainment Weekly in 2023. “You think, to be sitting across James Cameron and Spielberg, that was just crazy to me… because nobody’s ever filmed a show in Houston. We were, like, literally trying to talk [local business owners] into filming in their barber shop and then a year later we’re sitting there getting a letter from Spielberg about how much he enjoyed the show… It just brings tears to your eyes. Like, literally, it just makes it all so worth it.”

Amer previously confirmed that Season 2 will be the final installment for the series.

“I’m thankful to continue to tell a universal story of struggle that relates to so many refugees and millions of underrepresented humans trying to be seen around the globe,” Amer said in a statement. “And to be able to bring the people who loved and rooted for Mo Najjar along for the ride as we close this chapter of his story.”

“Mo” Season 2 premieres January 30 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
